Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the IT, Technology and Banking sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 1.73%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 2.01%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were NTPC Ltd (NS:NTPC), which rose 6.01% or 9.25 points to trade at 163.20 at the close. Meanwhile, SBI Life Insurance Company Ltd (NS:SBIL) added 2.31% or 26.50 points to end at 1,173.40 and HDFC Life Insurance Company Ltd (NS:HDFL) was up 1.70% or 9.60 points to 574.45 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Infosys Ltd (NS:INFY), which fell 7.27% or 127.15 points to trade at 1,621.40 at the close. Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (NS:HDFC) declined 4.83% or 115.00 points to end at 2,263.50 and HDFC Bank Ltd (NS:HDBK) was down 4.74% or 69.50 points to 1,395.45.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which rose 6.11% to 163.30, Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which was up 1.51% to settle at 1,339.20 and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which gained 1.37% to close at 7,574.55.
The worst performers were Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which was down 7.27% to 1,621.45 in late trade, Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (BO:HDFC) which lost 4.81% to settle at 2,263.05 and HDFC Bank Ltd (BO:HDBK) which was down 4.74% to 1,395.35 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1133 to 722 and 44 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1973 fell and 1429 advanced, while 143 ended unchanged.
Shares in NTPC Ltd (NS:NTPC) rose to 5-year highs; rising 6.01% or 9.25 to 163.20. Shares in NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) rose to 5-year highs; rising 6.11% or 9.40 to 163.30.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 8.72% to 19.33.
Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.76% or 15.00 to $1,989.90 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 0.24% or 0.26 to hit $106.12 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 0.16% or 0.18 to trade at $111.52 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.08% to 76.27, while EUR/INR fell 0.12% to 82.36.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.33% at 100.65.
