Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the Metals, Power and Public Sector Undertakings sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 1.68%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 1.63%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (NS:MRTI), which rose 1.94% or 137.40 points to trade at 7210.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Bajaj Finance Ltd (NS:BJFN) fell 0.07% or 2.70 points to end at 3617.00 and Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (NS:TCS) was down 0.08% or 1.85 points to 2297.65 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were AXIS Bank Ltd (NS:AXBK), which fell 3.77% or 17.90 points to trade at 457.05 at the close. Tata Steel Ltd (NS:TISC) declined 3.70% or 16.20 points to end at 421.90 and JSW Steel Ltd (NS:JSTL) was down 3.51% or 10.30 points to 283.10.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which rose 1.96% to 7210.00, Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which was up 0.02% to settle at 2300.00 and Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:BJFN) which lost 0.11% to close at 3613.50.

The worst performers were Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which was down 3.78% to 421.30 in late trade, AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which lost 3.68% to settle at 457.10 and State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which was down 3.05% to 206.65 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1117 to 493 and 74 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1654 fell and 992 advanced, while 177 ended unchanged.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 8.05% to 22.1525.

Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.40% or 7.70 to $1945.50 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 0.97% or 0.40 to hit $41.77 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 0.77% or 0.34 to trade at $44.41 a barrel.

USD/INR was down 0.36% to 73.127, while EUR/INR fell 0.38% to 86.6260.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.06% at 92.790.
