Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the Metals, Oil & Gas and Public Sector Undertakings sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 1.59%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 1.51%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were HCL Technologies Ltd (NS:HCLT), which rose 0.88% or 8.45 points to trade at 967.60 at the close. Meanwhile, Wipro Ltd (NS:WIPR) added 0.80% or 2.35 points to end at 295.75 and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NS:MAHM) was up 0.80% or 5.90 points to 740.75 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Coal India Ltd (NS:COAL), which fell 5.85% or 17.30 points to trade at 278.20 at the close. UltraTech Cement Ltd (NS:ULTC) declined 3.55% or 148.90 points to end at 4026.30 and Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (NS:IOC) was down 3.80% or 7.30 points to 184.75.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which rose 0.88% to 741.55, Wipro Ltd (BO:WIPR) which was up 0.85% to settle at 295.75 and Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which gained 0.51% to close at 1304.00.
The worst performers were Coal India Ltd (BO:COAL) which was down 5.69% to 278.70 in late trade, Tata Motors Ltd (BO:TAMO) which lost 3.67% to settle at 340.10 and Tata Motors Ltd DVR (BO:TAMdv) which was down 3.21% to 190.00 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1111 to 492 and 39 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1713 fell and 890 advanced, while 158 ended unchanged.
Shares in Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (NS:IOC) fell to 52-week lows; falling 3.80% or 7.30 to 184.75. Shares in Tata Motors Ltd (BO:TAMO) fell to 52-week lows; down 3.67% or 12.95 to 340.10. Shares in Tata Motors Ltd DVR (BO:TAMdv) fell to 3-years lows; losing 3.21% or 6.30 to 190.00.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 6.21% to 15.2200.
Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.21% or 2.80 to $1320.60 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 0.31% or 0.19 to hit $61.38 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 0.12% or 0.08 to trade at $65.20 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.09% to 64.955, while EUR/INR rose 0.14% to 80.0768.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.22% at 89.94.
