Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Banking, Real Estate and Power sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 1.58%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 1.58%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Asian Paints Ltd. (NS:ASPN), which rose 3.81% or 64.10 points to trade at 1748.00 at the close. Meanwhile, ITC Ltd (NS:ITC) added 3.36% or 6.25 points to end at 192.10 and Eicher Motors Ltd. (NS:EICH) was up 3.12% or 558.80 points to 18449.95 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were ICICI Bank Ltd (NS:ICBK), which fell 7.12% or 26.80 points to trade at 349.35 at the close. IndusInd Bank Ltd. (NS:INBK) declined 6.64% or 34.55 points to end at 485.85 and Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (NS:PGRD) was down 5.09% or 9.55 points to 177.90.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which rose 3.82% to 1748.00, ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which was up 3.31% to settle at 192.05 and Nestle India Ltd (BO:NEST) which gained 1.00% to close at 16710.00.
The worst performers were ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which was down 7.35% to 348.40 in late trade, IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which lost 6.60% to settle at 486.30 and Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which was down 4.79% to 178.75 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 979 to 654 and 41 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1385 fell and 1181 advanced, while 118 ended unchanged.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 0.81% to 29.5775.
Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.66% or 11.85 to $1793.85 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 1.96% or 0.79 to hit $39.58 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 1.62% or 0.69 to trade at $41.94 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.24% to 75.665, while EUR/INR rose 0.18% to 85.4940.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.10% at 96.707.
