Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Real Estate, Power and Consumer Durables sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 1.38% to hit a new 1-month low, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 1.36%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Axis Bank Ltd (NS:AXBK), which rose 0.83% or 8.60 points to trade at 1,049.30 at the close. Meanwhile, Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (NS:TCS) added 0.60% or 25.45 points to end at 4,291.10 and IndusInd Bank Ltd. (NS:INBK) was up 0.44% or 4.10 points to 941.70 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Adani Enterprises Ltd (NS:ADEL), which fell 6.29% or 149.25 points to trade at 2,225.15 at the close. Trent Ltd (NS:TREN) declined 5.46% or 359.70 points to end at 6,224.40 and Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL) was down 4.45% or 12.35 points to 265.30.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which rose 0.71% to 4,296.00, IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which was up 0.68% to settle at 944.00 and Axis Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which gained 0.36% to close at 1,044.55.
The worst performers were Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which was down 4.07% to 287.60 in late trade, Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which lost 3.57% to settle at 122.85 and NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which was down 3.23% to 298.25 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 2162 to 132 and 127 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 3378 fell and 534 advanced, while 129 ended unchanged.
Shares in Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) fell to 52-week lows; down 3.57% or 4.55 to 122.85. Shares in NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) fell to 52-week lows; losing 3.23% or 9.95 to 298.25.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 7.32% to 16.01.
Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.39% or 10.60 to $2,704.40 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 1.74% or 1.32 to hit $77.07 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 1.86% or 1.48 to trade at $81.24 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.53% to 86.62, while EUR/INR rose 0.10% to 88.36.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.32% at 109.83.
