Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Auto, Technology and IT sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 1.36% to hit a new 1-month low, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 1.51%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Yes Bank Ltd (NS:YESB), which rose 5.63% or 11.30 points to trade at 212.75 at the close. Meanwhile, Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC) added 4.76% or 11.55 points to end at 253.75 and Indiabulls Housing Finance Ltd (NS:INBF) was up 3.74% or 33.90 points to 943.95 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NS:MAHM), which fell 7.03% or 59.60 points to trade at 791.60 at the close. Eicher Motors Ltd. (NS:EICH) declined 6.79% or 1679.50 points to end at 23235.75 and Bharti Infratel Ltd (NS:BHRI) was down 6.45% or 17.25 points to 251.70.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Yes Bank Ltd (BO:YESB) which rose 5.79% to 212.85, Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) which was up 3.09% to settle at 240.10 and Coal India Ltd (BO:COAL) which gained 1.60% to close at 276.90.
The worst performers were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which was down 6.66% to 791.15 in late trade, Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which lost 4.14% to settle at 2162.45 and AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which was down 3.91% to 570.70 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 950 to 677 and 34 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1410 rose and 1156 declined, while 136 ended unchanged.
Shares in Eicher Motors Ltd. (NS:EICH) fell to 52-week lows; losing 6.79% or 1679.50 to 23235.75. Shares in Bharti Infratel Ltd (NS:BHRI) fell to 3-years lows; down 6.45% or 17.25 to 251.70.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 7.62% to 18.1175 a new 6-months high.
Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.04% or 0.50 to $1207.50 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 0.07% or 0.05 to hit $75.28 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 0.17% or 0.14 to trade at $84.94 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.07% to 73.255, while EUR/INR rose 0.53% to 84.6580.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.04% at 95.09.
