Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Banking, Metals and Real Estate sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 1.34%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 1.48%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:BRTI), which rose 3.32% or 14.40 points to trade at 447.75 at the close. Meanwhile, UPL Ltd (NS:UPLL) added 2.72% or 11.95 points to end at 450.50 and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NS:MAHM) was up 1.31% or 7.85 points to 605.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (NS:HDFC), which fell 3.54% or 72.25 points to trade at 1969.10 at the close. Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (NS:REDY) declined 3.22% or 164.40 points to end at 4935.00 and IndusInd Bank Ltd. (NS:INBK) was down 3.18% or 19.50 points to 594.50.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which rose 4.26% to 451.45, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which was up 1.17% to settle at 603.95 and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which gained 0.33% to close at 7182.45.
The worst performers were Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (BO:HDFC) which was down 3.39% to 1970.10 in late trade, ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which lost 3.34% to settle at 396.15 and IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which was down 3.14% to 594.70 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1059 to 528 and 95 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1575 fell and 971 advanced, while 148 ended unchanged.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 4.89% to 23.2800 a new 1-month high.
Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.71% or 13.55 to $1898.35 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 4.09% or 1.62 to hit $37.95 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 3.32% or 1.38 to trade at $40.23 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.32% to 73.861, while EUR/INR fell 0.10% to 86.7490.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.50% at 93.388.
