Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the IT, Technology and Metals sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 1.32%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 1.40%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Britannia Industries Ltd (NS:BRIT), which rose 1.26% or 55.75 points to trade at 4,465.45 at the close. Meanwhile, Hero MotoCorp Ltd (NS:HROM) added 0.86% or 23.50 points to end at 2,770.85 and SBI Life Insurance Company Ltd (NS:SBIL) was up 0.30% or 3.75 points to 1,273.50 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Tech Mahindra Ltd (NS:TEML), which fell 3.98% or 42.35 points to trade at 1,022.75 at the close. Titan Company Ltd (NS:TITN) declined 2.64% or 68.40 points to end at 2,522.70 and Infosys Ltd (NS:INFY) was down 2.46% or 38.90 points to 1,540.50.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which rose 0.08% to 1,000.70, NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which was up 0.06% to settle at 172.05 and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which lost 0.12% to close at 1,284.55.
The worst performers were Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which was down 3.98% to 1,022.70 in late trade, Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which lost 2.59% to settle at 1,539.40 and Titan Company Ltd (BO:TITN) which was down 2.57% to 2,523.35 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1264 to 634 and 50 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2051 fell and 1382 advanced, while 120 ended unchanged.
Shares in Britannia Industries Ltd (NS:BRIT) rose to all time highs; up 1.26% or 55.75 to 4,465.45.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 6.58% to 13.73.
Gold Futures for February delivery was down 1.66% or 30.15 to $1,788.55 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 0.03% or 0.02 to hit $77.30 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.13% or 0.11 to trade at $82.81 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.33% to 82.75, while EUR/INR fell 0.22% to 87.90.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.42% at 103.84.
