Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Metals, Oil & Gas and Public Sector Undertakings sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 1.28%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 1.25%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Yes Bank Ltd (NS:YESB), which rose 0.74% or 0.85 points to trade at 116.15 at the close. Meanwhile, Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (NS:ZEE) added 0.36% or 1.20 points to end at 338.10 and Wipro Ltd (NS:WIPR) was up 0.12% or 0.35 points to 299.15 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Tata Steel Ltd (NS:TISC), which fell 5.78% or 29.00 points to trade at 473.10 at the close. JSW Steel Ltd (NS:JSTL) declined 3.78% or 10.25 points to end at 260.20 and Tata Motors Ltd (NS:TAMO) was down 3.47% or 5.70 points to 158.75.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Yes Bank Ltd (BO:YESB) which rose 0.74% to 116.20, Coal India Ltd (BO:COAL) which was up 0.10% to settle at 255.20 and Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which unchanged 0.00% to close at 740.40.
The worst performers were Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which was down 5.66% to 473.05 in late trade, Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) which lost 3.33% to settle at 163.95 and Tata Motors Ltd (BO:TAMO) which was down 3.20% to 158.85 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1278 to 347 and 45 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1794 fell and 665 advanced, while 123 ended unchanged.
Shares in JSW Steel Ltd (NS:JSTL) fell to 52-week lows; losing 3.78% or 10.25 to 260.20. Shares in Wipro Ltd (NS:WIPR) rose to 3-years highs; gaining 0.12% or 0.35 to 299.15.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 5.43% to 14.6500.
Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.53% or 7.15 to $1337.35 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 0.63% or 0.33 to hit $52.18 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 0.50% or 0.31 to trade at $61.70 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.16% to 69.945, while EUR/INR rose 0.18% to 78.4180.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.03% at 97.035.
