Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Power, Banking and Public Sector Undertakings sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 1.25%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 1.27%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Bajaj Auto Ltd (NS:BAJA), which rose 1.45% or 53.50 points to trade at 3,740.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (NS:HLL) added 1.13% or 29.45 points to end at 2,629.95 and Britannia Industries Ltd (NS:BRIT) was up 1.01% or 44.35 points to 4,440.40 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (NS:APSE), which fell 6.13% or 46.65 points to trade at 714.55 at the close. State Bank Of India (NS:SBI) declined 4.48% or 26.65 points to end at 567.70 and IndusInd Bank Ltd. (NS:INBK) was down 4.26% or 51.70 points to 1,160.60.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which rose 1.14% to 2,628.00, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which was up 0.96% to settle at 8,781.75 and Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which gained 0.54% to close at 121.00.
The worst performers were State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which was down 4.30% to 568.80 in late trade, IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which lost 4.26% to settle at 1,160.70 and HDFC Bank Ltd (BO:HDBK) which was down 2.78% to 1,648.20 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1438 to 474 and 59 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2285 fell and 1100 advanced, while 127 ended unchanged.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 7.30% to 14.65.
Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.47% or 9.00 to $1,926.40 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 0.02% or 0.02 to hit $80.11 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 0.07% or 0.06 to trade at $86.07 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.06% to 81.64, while EUR/INR fell 0.05% to 88.72.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.17% at 101.85.
