Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Real Estate, Capital Goods and Metals sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 1.18% to hit a new 3-months low, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 1.09%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Britannia Industries Ltd (NS:BRIT), which rose 0.38% or 18.95 points to trade at 5,046.50 at the close. Meanwhile, NTPC Ltd (NS:NTPC) added 0.28% or 1.05 points to end at 381.35 and Tata Motors Ltd (NS:TAMO) was up 0.18% or 1.40 points to 786.25 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Hero MotoCorp Ltd (NS:HROM), which fell 4.33% or 204.60 points to trade at 4,519.60 at the close. Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC) declined 3.84% or 25.05 points to end at 626.60 and Tata Steel Ltd (NS:TISC) was down 3.47% or 5.00 points to 139.17.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tata Motors Ltd (BO:TAMO) which rose 0.29% to 787.20, NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which was up 0.21% to settle at 380.85 and Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which gained 0.16% to close at 2,479.10.
The worst performers were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which was down 3.23% to 2,801.80 in late trade, Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which lost 3.02% to settle at 139.80 and JSW Steel Ltd (BO:JSTL) which was down 2.18% to 936.00 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 2253 to 215 and 152 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 3152 fell and 634 advanced, while 93 ended unchanged.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 4.97% to 15.31.
Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.36% or 9.40 to $2,615.70 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 0.81% or 0.55 to hit $68.67 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 0.78% or 0.56 to trade at $72.45 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.01% to 84.39, while EUR/INR fell 0.08% to 89.58.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.00% at 105.94.
