Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Metals, Banking and Carbon sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 1.08%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 1.16%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were UltraTech Cement Ltd (NS:ULTC), which rose 4.23% or 275.05 points to trade at 6775.55 at the close. Meanwhile, Shree Cements Ltd. (NS:SHCM) added 3.54% or 981.35 points to end at 28676.60 and Adani Port and Special Economic Zone Ltd (NS:APSE) was up 3.10% or 22.60 points to 752.45 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were JSW Steel Ltd (NS:JSTL), which fell 3.28% or 14.05 points to trade at 414.10 at the close. Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC) declined 2.75% or 9.90 points to end at 349.45 and Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (NS:HDFC) was down 2.71% or 71.95 points to 2582.95.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were UltraTech Cement Ltd (BO:ULTC) which rose 4.07% to 6763.90, Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (BO:REDY) which was up 1.56% to settle at 4571.00 and Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which gained 0.65% to close at 2417.90.
The worst performers were Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (BO:HDFC) which was down 2.62% to 2583.20 in late trade, State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which lost 2.28% to settle at 395.80 and Bajaj Finserv Ltd (BO:BJFS) which was down 2.24% to 10154.60 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 934 to 718 and 69 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1552 rose and 1311 declined, while 183 ended unchanged.

(NS:SHCM) rose to all time highs; gaining 3.54% or 981.35 to 28676.60. Shares in Adani Port and Special Economic Zone Ltd (NS:APSE) rose to all time highs; rising 3.10% or 22.60 to 752.45. Shares in UltraTech Cement Ltd (BO:ULTC) rose to all time highs; rising 4.07% or 264.40 to 6763.90.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 9.33% to 24.1500.
Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.27% or 4.55 to $1711.25 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 0.67% or 0.41 to hit $60.87 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 0.62% or 0.40 to trade at $63.67 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.24% to 72.758, while EUR/INR fell 0.40% to 87.6160.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.24% at 91.162.
