Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Metals, Public Sector Undertakings and Healthcare sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 1.06%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.96%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were UPL Ltd (NS:UPLL), which rose 6.21% or 32.45 points to trade at 555.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Reliance Industries Ltd (NS:RELI) added 1.82% or 35.35 points to end at 1972.80 and Titan Company Ltd (NS:TITN) was up 1.40% or 20.75 points to 1498.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Tata Motors Ltd (NS:TAMO), which fell 6.07% or 15.80 points to trade at 244.50 at the close. Tata Steel Ltd (NS:TISC) declined 5.79% or 40.90 points to end at 665.00 and Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC) was down 4.93% or 5.00 points to 96.40.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which rose 2.37% to 1983.50, Titan Company Ltd (BO:TITN) which was up 1.57% to settle at 1499.50 and HDFC Bank Ltd (BO:HDBK) which gained 1.04% to close at 1481.60.
The worst performers were Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which was down 4.59% to 96.70 in late trade, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which lost 4.16% to settle at 578.90 and Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which was down 3.89% to 195.15 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1344 to 335 and 52 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2002 fell and 889 advanced, while 137 ended unchanged.
Shares in HDFC Bank Ltd (BO:HDBK) rose to 3-years highs; gaining 1.04% or 15.25 to 1481.60.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 1.60% to 24.3950 a new 1-month high.
Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.17% or 3.05 to $1832.95 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 0.19% or 0.10 to hit $52.32 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 0.31% or 0.17 to trade at $54.93 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.24% to 73.295, while EUR/INR rose 0.08% to 88.4085.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.15% at 90.892.
