Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Real Estate, Metals and Technology sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 0.99% to hit a new 3-months low, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.76%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were NTPC Ltd (NS:NTPC), which rose 1.21% or 2.00 points to trade at 167.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (NS:MRTI) added 1.06% or 92.20 points to end at 8773.50 and Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (NS:PGRD) was up 1.12% or 2.15 points to 194.20 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were HCL Technologies Ltd (NS:HCLT), which fell 4.61% or 44.60 points to trade at 926.50 at the close. Tata Steel Ltd (NS:TISC) declined 4.37% or 26.20 points to end at 574.95 and Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:BRTI) was down 4.13% or 17.20 points to 399.65.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which rose 1.12% to 194.40, NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which was up 1.03% to settle at 167.05 and Larsen & Toubro Ltd (BO:LART) which gained 0.95% to close at 1279.70.
The worst performers were Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which was down 4.24% to 575.05 in late trade, Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which lost 4.16% to settle at 400.80 and Wipro Ltd (BO:WIPR) which was down 2.60% to 288.05 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1406 to 218 and 30 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2142 fell and 549 advanced, while 129 ended unchanged.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 3.94% to 15.8200.
Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.02% or 0.20 to $1312.10 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 0.29% or 0.18 to hit $62.23 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 0.15% or 0.10 to trade at $66.11 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.01% to 65.065, while EUR/INR rose 0.18% to 80.0183.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.13% at 89.68.
