Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Consumer Durables, Metals and Real Estate sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 0.97%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.93%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL), which rose 2.42% or 9.20 points to trade at 390.35 at the close. Meanwhile, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (NS:HPCL) added 1.91% or 5.45 points to end at 292.25 and Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (NS:TCS) was up 1.09% or 23.20 points to 2157.85 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (NS:ZEE), which fell 6.42% or 26.40 points to trade at 387.75 at the close. Yes Bank Ltd (NS:YESB) declined 5.06% or 8.90 points to end at 166.25 and Titan Company Ltd (NS:TITN) was down 5.47% or 62.65 points to 1082.85.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which rose 1.12% to 307.00, Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which was up 1.04% to settle at 2154.70 and Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which gained 0.69% to close at 333.40.
The worst performers were Yes Bank Ltd (BO:YESB) which was down 5.30% to 166.30 in late trade, Tata Motors Ltd DVR (BO:TAMdv) which lost 4.88% to settle at 95.50 and Tata Motors Ltd (BO:TAMO) which was down 4.49% to 200.10 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1089 to 501 and 69 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1536 fell and 860 advanced, while 163 ended unchanged.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 9.99% to 26.4325 a new 3-years high.
Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.14% or 1.75 to $1283.05 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 1.03% or 0.64 to hit $61.30 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 0.69% or 0.49 to trade at $70.36 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.26% to 69.358, while EUR/INR rose 0.36% to 77.6545.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.07% at 97.328.
