Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Oil & Gas, Public Sector Undertakings and Capital Goods sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 0.91%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.77%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Tech Mahindra Ltd (NS:TEML), which rose 4.12% or 28.35 points to trade at 714.25 at the close. Meanwhile, Bharti Infratel Ltd (NS:BHRI) added 2.41% or 7.05 points to end at 299.55 and Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (NS:REDY) was up 0.93% or 21.15 points to 2293.80 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL), which fell 7.81% or 32.45 points to trade at 382.80 at the close. Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (NS:HPCL) declined 7.87% or 23.55 points to end at 276.60 and Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (NS:IOC) was down 6.83% or 11.40 points to 155.65.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were HDFC Bank Ltd (BO:HDBK) which rose 0.89% to 2111.65, Coal India Ltd (BO:COAL) which was up 0.74% to settle at 266.45 and Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which gained 0.38% to close at 1859.80.
The worst performers were ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which was down 3.16% to 278.90 in late trade, Larsen & Toubro Ltd (BO:LART) which lost 2.71% to settle at 1235.10 and Tata Motors Ltd DVR (BO:TAMdv) which was down 2.44% to 161.85 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1392 to 225 and 22 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2128 fell and 462 advanced, while 111 ended unchanged.

(BO:TCS) rose to 52-week highs; rising 0.38% or 7.10 to 1859.80. Shares in Tata Motors Ltd DVR (BO:TAMdv) fell to 3-years lows; down 2.44% or 4.05 to 161.85.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 5.57% to 13.5100.
Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.03% or 0.40 to $1260.30 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.91% or 0.64 to hit $71.17 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.60% or 0.46 to trade at $76.60 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.29% to 68.585, while EUR/INR rose 0.24% to 79.8319.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.04% at 94.40.
