Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Oil & Gas, Real Estate and Metals sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.87% to hit a new 1-month low, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.84%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (NS:HLL), which rose 1.71% or 28.60 points to trade at 1697.50 at the close. Meanwhile, Larsen & Toubro Ltd (NS:LART) added 1.17% or 15.80 points to end at 1366.60 and Wipro Ltd (NS:WIPR) was up 0.91% or 2.65 points to 293.85 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (NS:ZEE), which fell 4.33% or 16.80 points to trade at 369.15 at the close. Tata Motors Ltd (NS:TAMO) declined 4.90% or 9.80 points to end at 190.95 and ICICI Bank Ltd (NS:ICBK) was down 3.76% or 15.10 points to 386.50.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which rose 1.37% to 1695.25, Larsen & Toubro Ltd (BO:LART) which was up 1.14% to settle at 1366.65 and Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which gained 0.84% to close at 191.60.
The worst performers were Tata Motors Ltd DVR (BO:TAMdv) which was down 4.65% to 91.20 in late trade, Tata Motors Ltd (BO:TAMO) which lost 4.60% to settle at 190.90 and ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which was down 3.77% to 386.25 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1117 to 469 and 65 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1619 fell and 817 advanced, while 131 ended unchanged.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 0.17% to 26.4775.
Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.11% or 1.35 to $1282.45 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 0.59% or 0.37 to hit $61.88 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 0.87% or 0.62 to trade at $70.62 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.10% to 69.395, while EUR/INR rose 0.05% to 77.7155.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.01% at 97.282.
