Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Capital Goods, Banking and Carbon sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 0.87%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.88%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:BRTI), which rose 4.98% or 21.05 points to trade at 440.20 at the close. Meanwhile, Tata Motors Ltd (NS:TAMO) added 3.14% or 12.05 points to end at 395.80 and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (NS:HPCL) was up 2.44% or 9.15 points to 383.85 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (NS:HDFC), which fell 4.14% or 78.90 points to trade at 1823.35 at the close. Larsen & Toubro Ltd (NS:LART) declined 3.40% or 48.15 points to end at 1363.65 and IndusInd Bank Ltd. (NS:INBK) was down 2.63% or 46.30 points to 1713.00.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which rose 4.20% to 439.50, Tata Motors Ltd (BO:TAMO) which was up 3.12% to settle at 396.05 and Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which gained 2.08% to close at 196.50.
The worst performers were Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (BO:HDFC) which was down 4.06% to 1825.95 in late trade, Larsen & Toubro Ltd (BO:LART) which lost 3.65% to settle at 1362.75 and Bajaj Auto Ltd (BO:BAJA) which was down 2.12% to 3174.00 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 994 to 635 and 26 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1648 fell and 1074 advanced, while 163 ended unchanged.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 5.26% to 16.0525.
Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.22% or 3.00 to $1340.30 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 0.28% or 0.18 to hit $65.27 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 0.69% or 0.47 to trade at $68.11 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.26% to 64.065, while EUR/INR fell 0.06% to 79.8642.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.10% at 88.95.
