Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Metals, Real Estate and Oil & Gas sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 0.82%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.66%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were AXIS Bank Ltd (NS:AXBK), which rose 1.58% or 12.40 points to trade at 798.45 at the close. Meanwhile, Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (NS:KTKM) added 1.03% or 18.40 points to end at 1,801.85 and Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (NS:PGRD) was up 0.76% or 1.75 points to 232.65 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC), which fell 5.90% or 34.00 points to trade at 542.35 at the close. Coal India Ltd (NS:COAL) declined 5.30% or 10.40 points to end at 186.00 and Grasim Industries Ltd (NS:GRAS) was down 3.55% or 64.65 points to 1,755.50.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which rose 1.67% to 798.55, Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (BO:KTKM) which was up 1.05% to settle at 1,801.50 and Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which gained 0.82% to close at 232.80.
The worst performers were Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which was down 2.76% to 1,320.55 in late trade, Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which lost 2.26% to settle at 1,415.95 and Wipro Ltd (BO:WIPR) which was down 2.16% to 558.85 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1398 to 439 and 23 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2174 fell and 1129 advanced, while 94 ended unchanged.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 0.62% to 18.16.
Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.35% or 6.80 to $1,955.00 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 4.00% or 3.77 to hit $98.06 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 4.33% or 4.26 to trade at $102.74 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.38% to 76.12, while EUR/INR rose 0.28% to 82.74.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.17% at 100.09.
