Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Metals, Oil & Gas and Public Sector Undertakings sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 0.81%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.73%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were HDFC Life Insurance Company Ltd (NS:HDFL), which rose 1.60% or 11.15 points to trade at 707.40 at the close. Meanwhile, Tata Motors Ltd (NS:TAMO) added 1.58% or 16.20 points to end at 1,041.50 and SBI Life Insurance Company Ltd (NS:SBIL) was up 1.22% or 20.55 points to 1,706.25 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were LTIMindtree Ltd (NS:LTIM), which fell 4.12% or 229.55 points to trade at 5,337.95 at the close. Grasim Industries Ltd (NS:GRAS) declined 3.63% or 95.65 points to end at 2,541.40 and Asian Paints Ltd. (NS:ASPN) was down 3.37% or 104.55 points to 2,996.90.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tata Motors Ltd (BO:TAMO) which rose 1.72% to 1,042.90, HDFC Bank Ltd (BO:HDBK) which was up 0.94% to settle at 1,640.20 and Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which gained 0.69% to close at 1,451.65.
The worst performers were Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which was down 3.56% to 2,990.30 in late trade, Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which lost 2.91% to settle at 1,739.90 and JSW Steel Ltd (BO:JSTL) which was down 2.56% to 884.00 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1419 to 1013 and 26 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1962 fell and 1782 advanced, while 103 ended unchanged.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 2.97% to 16.65.
Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.27% or 6.55 to $2,438.95 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 0.27% or 0.20 to hit $75.03 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 0.41% or 0.32 to trade at $78.01 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.01% to 83.96, while EUR/INR rose 0.03% to 91.72.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.06% at 102.93.
