Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Power, Consumer Durables and Public Sector Undertakings sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 0.78%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.76%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Bharti Infratel Ltd (NS:BHRI), which rose 7.15% or 11.50 points to trade at 172.40 at the close. Meanwhile, Yes Bank Ltd (NS:YESB) added 6.65% or 1.75 points to end at 28.05 and IndusInd Bank Ltd. (NS:INBK) was up 6.58% or 28.00 points to 453.50 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were NTPC Ltd (NS:NTPC), which fell 4.33% or 4.10 points to trade at 90.60 at the close. Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL) declined 4.25% or 14.60 points to end at 329.20 and Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC) was down 4.16% or 3.30 points to 75.95.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which rose 6.58% to 453.65, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which was up 3.45% to settle at 400.75 and Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which gained 3.12% to close at 1507.25.
The worst performers were Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which was down 4.54% to 75.65 in late trade, NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which lost 4.38% to settle at 90.60 and Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (BO:KTKM) which was down 3.69% to 1199.50 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 801 to 696 and 95 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1207 fell and 1012 advanced, while 149 ended unchanged.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 3.19% to 39.9300.
Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.56% or 9.40 to $1697.90 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 8.88% or 2.13 to hit $26.12 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 6.43% or 1.91 to trade at $31.63 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.34% to 75.823, while EUR/INR fell 0.40% to 81.7905.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.12% at 100.257.
