Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Consumer Durables, Fast Moving Consumer Goods and IT sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 0.78% to hit a new 1-month low, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.87%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Bharti Infratel Ltd (NS:BHRI), which rose 3.13% or 9.60 points to trade at 317.05 at the close. Meanwhile, Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (NS:ZEE) added 1.51% or 6.50 points to end at 438.95 and Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC) was up 1.59% or 2.15 points to 137.10 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (NS:TCS), which fell 2.96% or 60.10 points to trade at 1970.30 at the close. Yes Bank Ltd (NS:YESB) declined 2.28% or 5.00 points to end at 213.55 and Indiabulls Housing Finance Ltd (NS:INBF) was down 3.50% or 22.35 points to 623.50.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which rose 1.48% to 137.10, Tata Motors Ltd (BO:TAMO) which was up 1.18% to settle at 163.00 and AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which gained 0.70% to close at 691.35.
The worst performers were Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which was down 2.91% to 1971.75 in late trade, Yes Bank Ltd (BO:YESB) which lost 2.54% to settle at 213.15 and ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which was down 1.95% to 274.15 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1093 to 498 and 64 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1643 fell and 845 advanced, while 148 ended unchanged.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 9.36% to 18.0000.
Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.02% or 0.25 to $1327.45 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 0.63% or 0.35 to hit $56.33 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 0.11% or 0.07 to trade at $66.18 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.02% to 71.345, while EUR/INR rose 0.42% to 80.8340.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.22% at 96.528.
