Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Metals, Auto and Capital Goods sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.75%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.62%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were State Bank Of India (NS:SBI), which rose 1.13% or 5.65 points to trade at 503.80 at the close. Meanwhile, Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (NS:IOC) added 0.70% or 0.90 points to end at 129.35 and HDFC Bank Ltd (NS:HDBK) was up 0.56% or 8.60 points to 1539.40 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Tata Motors Ltd (NS:TAMO), which fell 3.86% or 20.45 points to trade at 509.70 at the close. Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NS:MAHM) declined 3.50% or 33.45 points to end at 921.00 and Tech Mahindra Ltd (NS:TEML) was down 3.13% or 50.70 points to 1567.75.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which rose 1.16% to 503.95, Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which was up 0.63% to settle at 192.35 and HDFC Bank Ltd (BO:HDBK) which gained 0.58% to close at 1539.60.
The worst performers were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which was down 3.28% to 923.80 in late trade, Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which lost 3.19% to settle at 1566.30 and HCL Technologies Ltd (BO:HCLT) which was down 2.88% to 1120.20 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1361 to 400 and 42 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2211 fell and 1020 advanced, while 129 ended unchanged.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 0.82% to 14.8575 a new 1-month low.
Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.40% or 7.50 to $1862.70 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 0.23% or 0.18 to hit $77.37 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 0.12% or 0.10 to trade at $80.18 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.09% to 74.304, while EUR/INR rose 0.25% to 84.2420.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.12% at 95.715.
