Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Metals, Healthcare and Real Estate sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 0.74%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.60%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Tech Mahindra Ltd (NS:TEML), which rose 2.53% or 16.25 points to trade at 657.30 at the close. Meanwhile, NTPC Ltd (NS:NTPC) added 1.44% or 2.20 points to end at 155.60 and Infosys Ltd (NS:INFY) was up 1.41% or 18.60 points to 1332.85 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (NS:REDY), which fell 9.74% or 225.90 points to trade at 2093.95 at the close. Tata Steel Ltd (NS:TISC) declined 7.04% or 39.35 points to end at 519.25 and Lupin Ltd (NS:LUPN) was down 5.48% or 47.45 points to 818.15.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which rose 1.96% to 155.70, Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which was up 1.83% to settle at 1333.05 and Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (BO:HDFC) which gained 0.95% to close at 1991.55.
The worst performers were Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which was down 6.96% to 519.30 in late trade, Tata Motors Ltd DVR (BO:TAMdv) which lost 5.02% to settle at 142.75 and Tata Motors Ltd (BO:TAMO) which was down 4.77% to 251.55 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1393 to 220 and 49 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2011 fell and 524 advanced, while 154 ended unchanged.
Shares in Tata Motors Ltd DVR (BO:TAMdv) fell to 3-years lows; losing 5.02% or 7.55 to 142.75. Shares in Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (BO:HDFC) rose to all time highs; rising 0.95% or 18.65 to 1991.55. Shares in Tata Motors Ltd (BO:TAMO) fell to 5-year lows; losing 4.77% or 12.60 to 251.55.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 5.24% to 12.9475.
Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.22% or 2.70 to $1243.90 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 1.80% or 1.26 to hit $68.69 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 2.00% or 1.51 to trade at $73.82 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.20% to 68.630, while EUR/INR rose 0.39% to 80.3610.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.17% at 94.28.
