Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Metals, Public Sector Undertakings and Banking sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 0.73% to hit a new 1-month low, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.63%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Tech Mahindra Ltd (NS:TEML), which rose 1.47% or 6.85 points to trade at 472.25 at the close. Meanwhile, Reliance Industries Ltd (NS:RELI) added 1.42% or 12.95 points to end at 926.65 and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (NS:MRTI) was up 1.37% or 116.60 points to 8612.40 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Bosch Ltd (NS:BOSH), which fell 3.84% or 764.20 points to trade at 19149.95 at the close. Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC) declined 3.31% or 7.95 points to end at 232.10 and Eicher Motors Ltd. (NS:EICH) was down 2.67% or 771.00 points to 28157.80.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which rose 1.76% to 927.50, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which was up 1.23% to settle at 8600.65 and Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which gained 1.05% to close at 1273.85.
The worst performers were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which was down 2.31% to 511.55 in late trade, State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which lost 2.21% to settle at 312.25 and ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which was down 1.96% to 299.40 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1071 to 483 and 51 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1614 fell and 959 advanced, while 168 ended unchanged.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 0.53% to 15.0875 a new 3-months high.
Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.46% or 5.80 to $1270.70 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 0.68% or 0.39 to hit $57.23 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 0.56% or 0.35 to trade at $62.51 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.18% to 64.485, while EUR/INR rose 0.16% to 76.2394.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.02% at 93.29.
