Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Metals, Public Sector Undertakings and Real Estate sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.72%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.83%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Apollo Hospitals Enterprises Ltd. (NS:APLH), which rose 2.58% or 155.90 points to trade at 6,204.70 at the close. Meanwhile, Nestle India Ltd (NS:NEST) added 1.92% or 49.05 points to end at 2,610.00 and SBI Life Insurance Company Ltd (NS:SBIL) was up 1.56% or 23.60 points to 1,534.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Tata Consumer Products Ltd (NS:TACN), which fell 3.06% or 38.55 points to trade at 1,223.00 at the close. Bajaj Auto Ltd (NS:BAJA) declined 2.47% or 219.65 points to end at 8,659.40 and Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (NS:PGRD) was down 2.43% or 7.10 points to 285.55.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Nestle India Ltd (BO:NEST) which rose 1.85% to 2,607.10, Dr Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (BO:REDY) which was up 1.21% to settle at 6,400.00 and Bajaj Finserv Ltd (BO:BJFS) which gained 0.83% to close at 1,595.70.
The worst performers were Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which was down 2.53% to 285.15 in late trade, Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which lost 2.19% to settle at 153.80 and State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which was down 1.80% to 774.00 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1872 to 335 and 31 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2929 fell and 880 advanced, while 119 ended unchanged.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 2.81% to 13.99.
Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.01% or 0.25 to $2,185.25 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 0.05% or 0.04 to hit $77.97 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 0.01% or 0.01 to trade at $82.07 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.01% to 82.76, while EUR/INR rose 0.04% to 90.55.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.02% at 102.32.
