Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Public Sector Undertakings, Power and Oil & Gas sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 0.68%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.61%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Eicher Motors Ltd. (NS:EICH), which rose 1.01% or 212.85 points to trade at 21259.20 at the close. Meanwhile, Cipla Ltd. (NS:CIPL) added 1.09% or 4.90 points to end at 453.05 and Bajaj Finance Ltd (NS:BJFN) was up 1.26% or 49.65 points to 3986.85 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Yes Bank Ltd (NS:YESB), which fell 10.40% or 5.85 points to trade at 50.55 at the close. Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (NS:ZEE) declined 5.10% or 14.50 points to end at 270.95 and GAIL Ltd (NS:GAIL) was down 4.39% or 5.10 points to 111.05.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:BJFN) which rose 1.06% to 3987.35, Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which was up 1.05% to settle at 2031.00 and HDFC Bank Ltd (BO:HDBK) which gained 0.55% to close at 1249.75.
The worst performers were Yes Bank Ltd (BO:YESB) which was down 10.05% to 50.55 in late trade, Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which lost 2.58% to settle at 182.85 and IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which was down 2.55% to 1413.00 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1172 to 403 and 54 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1644 fell and 772 advanced, while 155 ended unchanged.
Shares in GAIL Ltd (NS:GAIL) fell to 3-years lows; losing 4.39% or 5.10 to 111.05.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 2.11% to 14.2900.
Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.28% or 4.15 to $1469.05 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 0.05% or 0.03 to hit $59.05 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.05% or 0.03 to trade at $64.28 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.08% to 70.900, while EUR/INR fell 0.02% to 78.4810.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.06% at 97.550.
