Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Oil & Gas, Public Sector Undertakings and Banking sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.65%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.59%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were GAIL Ltd (NS:GAIL), which rose 3.32% or 12.05 points to trade at 375.45 at the close. Meanwhile, Tech Mahindra Ltd (NS:TEML) added 2.64% or 17.05 points to end at 659.95 and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:SUN) was up 1.95% or 10.80 points to 563.90 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL), which fell 5.75% or 23.10 points to trade at 379.70 at the close. Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (NS:HPCL) declined 4.77% or 13.65 points to end at 273.10 and Indiabulls Housing Finance Ltd (NS:INBF) was down 3.92% or 51.90 points to 1276.50.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which rose 1.75% to 1409.45, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which was up 1.65% to settle at 562.75 and Wipro Ltd (BO:WIPR) which gained 1.31% to close at 282.70.
The worst performers were Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) which was down 3.40% to 216.05 in late trade, State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which lost 3.17% to settle at 294.80 and Yes Bank Ltd (BO:YESB) which was down 3.11% to 371.10 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1119 to 499 and 42 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1698 fell and 918 advanced, while 143 ended unchanged.
Shares in Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) rose to all time highs; gaining 1.75% or 24.25 to 1409.45.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 4.28% to 13.4000.
Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.80% or 9.70 to $1209.30 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 0.28% or 0.19 to hit $67.44 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 0.04% or 0.03 to trade at $72.78 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 1.14% to 69.885, while EUR/INR rose 1.17% to 79.5325.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.06% at 96.25.
