Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Oil & Gas, Power and IT sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.64%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.59%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Tata Steel Ltd (NS:TISC), which rose 2.09% or 2.95 points to trade at 144.00 at the close. Meanwhile, State Bank Of India (NS:SBI) added 1.45% or 11.00 points to end at 771.10 and IndusInd Bank Ltd. (NS:INBK) was up 0.72% or 10.80 points to 1,515.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL), which fell 3.62% or 23.80 points to trade at 633.80 at the close. NTPC Ltd (NS:NTPC) declined 2.91% or 10.05 points to end at 335.65 and Coal India Ltd (NS:COAL) was down 2.82% or 12.60 points to 433.90.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which rose 1.99% to 143.85, State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which was up 1.51% to settle at 771.55 and IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which gained 0.88% to close at 1,517.60.
The worst performers were NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which was down 2.76% to 336.10 in late trade, Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which lost 2.71% to settle at 280.15 and Wipro Ltd (BO:WIPR) which was down 2.00% to 521.15 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1487 to 681 and 24 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2269 fell and 1437 advanced, while 94 ended unchanged.
Shares in State Bank Of India (NS:SBI) rose to all time highs; rising 1.45% or 11.00 to 771.10. Shares in State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) rose to all time highs; up 1.51% or 11.45 to 771.55.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 0.90% to 15.93.
Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.02% or 0.35 to $2,039.45 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 0.45% or 0.35 to hit $76.69 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 0.40% or 0.33 to trade at $82.01 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.08% to 82.95, while EUR/INR fell 0.06% to 89.54.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.06% at 104.04.
