Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Metals, Auto and Public Sector Undertakings sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.57%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.62%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:SUN), which rose 2.25% or 9.30 points to trade at 423.80 at the close. Meanwhile, Bharti Infratel Ltd (NS:BHRI) added 2.51% or 6.75 points to end at 275.70 and Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (NS:TCS) was up 1.95% or 40.45 points to 2107.55 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were State Bank Of India (NS:SBI), which fell 3.29% or 11.85 points to trade at 348.65 at the close. Tata Steel Ltd (NS:TISC) declined 2.86% or 14.50 points to end at 493.30 and ICICI Bank Ltd (NS:ICBK) was down 2.49% or 10.80 points to 423.30.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which rose 2.41% to 422.85, Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which was up 1.78% to settle at 2112.00 and HCL Technologies Ltd (BO:HCLT) which gained 1.17% to close at 1085.00.
The worst performers were State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which was down 3.29% to 348.55 in late trade, Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which lost 2.76% to settle at 493.30 and ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which was down 2.67% to 422.90 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1004 to 580 and 56 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1456 fell and 1024 advanced, while 149 ended unchanged.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 3.05% to 16.4075.
Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.47% or 6.05 to $1283.15 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 2.01% or 1.19 to hit $57.95 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 1.83% or 1.26 to trade at $67.41 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.24% to 69.815, while EUR/INR rose 0.31% to 77.9060.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.04% at 97.880.
