Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Oil & Gas, Public Sector Undertakings and Banking sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 0.56%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.44%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (NS:HLL), which rose 3.87% or 58.65 points to trade at 1574.10 at the close. Meanwhile, Lupin Ltd (NS:LUPN) added 2.26% or 16.95 points to end at 766.50 and ITC Ltd (NS:ITC) was up 1.60% or 4.50 points to 285.85 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were ICICI Bank Ltd (NS:ICBK), which fell 3.67% or 11.30 points to trade at 297.25 at the close. UltraTech Cement Ltd (NS:ULTC) declined 3.15% or 129.30 points to end at 3990.75 and Cipla Ltd. (NS:CIPL) was down 3.40% or 19.60 points to 559.90.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which rose 3.84% to 1574.20, ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which was up 1.47% to settle at 285.95 and Wipro Ltd (BO:WIPR) which gained 1.44% to close at 274.30.
The worst performers were ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which was down 3.28% to 297.90 in late trade, Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which lost 2.34% to settle at 956.45 and State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which was down 2.19% to 243.15 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 993 to 598 and 45 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1550 fell and 1000 advanced, while 126 ended unchanged.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 2.05% to 13.4350.
Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.01% or 0.10 to $1290.20 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 0.13% or 0.09 to hit $71.22 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 0.51% or 0.40 to trade at $78.03 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.40% to 67.875, while EUR/INR fell 0.77% to 79.9655.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.29% at 93.41.
