Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Metals, Auto and Power sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.55%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.39%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were UPL Ltd (NS:UPLL), which rose 4.77% or 25.90 points to trade at 569.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Bajaj Finance Ltd (NS:BJFN) added 1.62% or 75.30 points to end at 4729.60 and Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (NS:KTKM) was up 1.21% or 19.95 points to 1673.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NS:MAHM), which fell 7.15% or 40.70 points to trade at 528.40 at the close. Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (NS:ZEE) declined 7.15% or 17.85 points to end at 231.90 and Tata Steel Ltd (NS:TISC) was down 5.91% or 27.85 points to 443.15.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:BJFN) which rose 1.51% to 4720.30, Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which was up 1.20% to settle at 2162.35 and Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (BO:KTKM) which gained 1.04% to close at 1669.85.
The worst performers were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which was down 7.16% to 528.05 in late trade, Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which lost 5.80% to settle at 443.65 and Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which was down 2.84% to 106.20 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1007 to 534 and 98 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1465 fell and 936 advanced, while 162 ended unchanged.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 3.36% to 14.2100.
Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.25% or 3.95 to $1577.35 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 0.54% or 0.27 to hit $50.05 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 0.51% or 0.28 to trade at $54.19 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.27% to 71.308, while EUR/INR fell 0.27% to 78.0925.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.06% at 98.515.
