Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Public Sector Undertakings, Oil & Gas and Auto sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 0.55%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.61%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were UltraTech Cement Ltd (NS:ULTC), which rose 2.65% or 96.50 points to trade at 3752.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Bajaj Finance Ltd (NS:BJFN) added 2.34% or 54.55 points to end at 2390.60 and Bharti Infratel Ltd (NS:BHRI) was up 2.08% or 5.95 points to 291.95 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Tata Motors Ltd (NS:TAMO), which fell 6.04% or 18.60 points to trade at 289.40 at the close. Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (NS:HPCL) declined 3.92% or 12.20 points to end at 298.95 and ICICI Bank Ltd (NS:ICBK) was down 3.64% or 10.95 points to 289.70.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which rose 2.07% to 1272.30, Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (BO:KTKM) which was up 0.70% to settle at 1329.45 and Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) which gained 0.70% to close at 230.25.
The worst performers were Tata Motors Ltd DVR (BO:TAMdv) which was down 7.08% to 168.75 in late trade, Tata Motors Ltd (BO:TAMO) which lost 5.94% to settle at 289.85 and ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which was down 3.79% to 289.45 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1183 to 419 and 42 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1696 fell and 833 advanced, while 128 ended unchanged.
Shares in Bajaj Finance Ltd (NS:BJFN) rose to all time highs; up 2.34% or 54.55 to 2390.60.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 4.66% to 12.5825.
Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.16% or 2.00 to $1268.70 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 0.16% or 0.11 to hit $68.47 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 1.71% or 1.29 to trade at $74.03 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.42% to 68.150, while EUR/INR rose 0.27% to 79.3379.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.14% at 94.32.
