Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Metals, Power and Real Estate sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 0.53%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.45%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Asian Paints Ltd. (NS:ASPN), which rose 2.26% or 28.60 points to trade at 1293.05 at the close. Meanwhile, Titan Company Ltd (NS:TITN) added 2.15% or 18.90 points to end at 897.40 and Infosys Ltd (NS:INFY) was up 2.10% or 27.50 points to 1334.70 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were NTPC Ltd (NS:NTPC), which fell 3.51% or 5.60 points to trade at 153.55 at the close. Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:BRTI) declined 3.52% or 13.45 points to end at 368.05 and Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC) was down 3.45% or 7.95 points to 223.25.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which rose 2.29% to 1293.00, Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which was up 2.12% to settle at 1334.45 and Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) which gained 1.25% to close at 238.70.
The worst performers were NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which was down 3.67% to 153.60 in late trade, Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which lost 3.54% to settle at 367.50 and Adani Port and Special Economic Zone Ltd (BO:APSE) which was down 2.37% to 363.20 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1075 to 524 and 47 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1630 fell and 913 advanced, while 134 ended unchanged.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 3.34% to 13.3700.
Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.33% or 4.20 to $1250.30 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 0.05% or 0.04 to hit $74.11 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 0.68% or 0.54 to trade at $78.69 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.37% to 68.695, while EUR/INR rose 0.04% to 80.0246.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.31% at 94.52.
