Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Metals, Power and Auto sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.52%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.46%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL), which rose 2.49% or 11.65 points to trade at 479.40 at the close. Meanwhile, Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (NS:HDFC) added 1.57% or 37.60 points to end at 2433.40 and Bajaj Finance Ltd (NS:BJFN) was up 1.24% or 51.60 points to 4215.95 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Vedanta Ltd (NS:VDAN), which fell 4.53% or 6.75 points to trade at 142.10 at the close. Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:BRTI) declined 4.37% or 22.50 points to end at 491.90 and Tata Motors Ltd (NS:TAMO) was down 3.18% or 5.80 points to 176.40.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (BO:HDFC) which rose 1.53% to 2432.40, Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:BJFN) which was up 1.14% to settle at 4213.05 and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which gained 0.96% to close at 452.65.
The worst performers were Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which was down 4.55% to 490.90 in late trade, Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which lost 3.49% to settle at 446.25 and Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which was down 2.34% to 1471.35 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1008 to 504 and 105 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1471 fell and 940 advanced, while 156 ended unchanged.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 0.71% to 17.2975 a new 3-months high.
Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.04% or 0.65 to $1578.05 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 0.15% or 0.08 to hit $53.06 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 0.41% or 0.24 to trade at $58.34 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.16% to 71.325, while EUR/INR fell 0.18% to 78.5750.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.04% at 97.805.
