Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Banking, Healthcare and Consumer Durables sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 0.52%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.61%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NS:MAHM), which rose 2.94% or 25.00 points to trade at 870.25 at the close. Meanwhile, GAIL Ltd (NS:GAIL) added 2.14% or 7.20 points to end at 342.95 and HCL Technologies Ltd (NS:HCLT) was up 1.62% or 14.50 points to 905.10 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were ICICI Bank Ltd (NS:ICBK), which fell 3.11% or 9.30 points to trade at 289.90 at the close. State Bank Of India (NS:SBI) declined 3.09% or 8.40 points to end at 264.30 and Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (NS:ZEE) was down 2.29% or 13.15 points to 557.30.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which rose 2.26% to 868.80, Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which was up 1.08% to settle at 378.25 and Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which gained 0.72% to close at 1223.20.
The worst performers were ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which was down 2.87% to 290.65 in late trade, State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which lost 2.70% to settle at 264.90 and IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which was down 1.80% to 1883.00 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 884 to 720 and 37 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1410 fell and 1190 advanced, while 150 ended unchanged.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 0.11% to 13.0700.
Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.08% or 1.00 to $1302.70 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 1.43% or 0.97 to hit $66.91 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 0.57% or 0.43 to trade at $75.75 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.60% to 67.835, while EUR/INR rose 0.09% to 78.4164.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.47% at 94.80.
