Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Metals, Capital Goods and Consumer Durables sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 0.44%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.50%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were GAIL Ltd (NS:GAIL), which rose 3.61% or 13.70 points to trade at 393.80 at the close. Meanwhile, Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (NS:REDY) added 3.47% or 79.15 points to end at 2353.45 and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:SUN) was up 3.19% or 19.20 points to 619.70 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (NS:KTKM), which fell 3.71% or 48.00 points to trade at 1245.40 at the close. Vedanta Ltd (NS:VDAN) declined 2.84% or 6.10 points to end at 208.80 and Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (NS:ZEE) was down 2.59% or 13.30 points to 500.45.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which rose 2.98% to 619.60, Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which was up 1.51% to settle at 372.05 and Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which gained 1.17% to close at 1425.30.
The worst performers were Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (BO:KTKM) which was down 3.62% to 1244.90 in late trade, Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) which lost 3.05% to settle at 208.55 and Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (BO:HDFC) which was down 2.61% to 1890.90 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 986 to 616 and 53 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1506 fell and 1120 advanced, while 128 ended unchanged.
Shares in GAIL Ltd (NS:GAIL) rose to 3-years highs; rising 3.61% or 13.70 to 393.80. Shares in Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:SUN) rose to 52-week highs; rising 3.19% or 19.20 to 619.70. Shares in Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) rose to 52-week highs; rising 2.98% or 17.95 to 619.60. Shares in Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) rose to all time highs; up 1.17% or 16.55 to 1425.30.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 2.73% to 13.6450.
Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.07% or 0.80 to $1185.80 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 0.08% or 0.05 to hit $65.06 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.34% or 0.24 to trade at $71.00 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.02% to 70.260, while EUR/INR rose 0.72% to 79.9000.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.07% at 96.52.
