Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Metals, Consumer Durables and Technology sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 0.41%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.48%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Larsen & Toubro Ltd (NS:LART), which rose 2.43% or 82.20 points to trade at 3,470.15 at the close. Meanwhile, Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (NS:PGRD) added 2.07% or 5.85 points to end at 287.80 and Adani Enterprises Ltd (NS:ADEL) was up 1.66% or 54.45 points to 3,327.75 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Asian Paints Ltd. (NS:ASPN), which fell 3.94% or 117.50 points to trade at 2,868.45 at the close. Apollo Hospitals Enterprises Ltd. (NS:APLH) declined 2.81% or 190.05 points to end at 6,584.00 and Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC) was down 2.47% or 12.80 points to 505.55.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Larsen & Toubro Ltd (BO:LART) which rose 2.36% to 3,469.80, Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which was up 1.97% to settle at 287.75 and Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which gained 0.38% to close at 2,403.45.
The worst performers were Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which was down 3.90% to 2,868.40 in late trade, Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which lost 1.99% to settle at 1,295.50 and Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which was down 1.99% to 142.60 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1321 to 862 and 47 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2157 fell and 1682 advanced, while 122 ended unchanged.
Shares in Adani Enterprises Ltd (NS:ADEL) rose to 52-week highs; gaining 1.66% or 54.45 to 3,327.75.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 4.19% to 15.60.
Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.25% or 5.05 to $2,044.35 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 0.39% or 0.30 to hit $76.19 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 0.41% or 0.33 to trade at $80.47 a barrel.
USD/INR was unchanged 0.01% to 82.88, while EUR/INR rose 0.22% to 89.89.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.12% at 103.73.
