Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Capital Goods, Power and Real Estate sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 0.39% to hit a new 1-month low, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.39%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were UltraTech Cement Ltd (NS:ULTC), which rose 0.89% or 61.70 points to trade at 7,012.40 at the close. Meanwhile, SBI Life Insurance Company Ltd (NS:SBIL) added 0.84% or 10.40 points to end at 1,244.75 and Infosys Ltd (NS:INFY) was up 0.83% or 12.50 points to 1,522.05 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were UPL Ltd (NS:UPLL), which fell 3.38% or 25.55 points to trade at 729.35 at the close. Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NS:MAHM) declined 2.51% or 31.75 points to end at 1,233.95 and Bajaj Finserv Ltd (NS:BJFS) was down 2.37% or 37.50 points to 1,544.30.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were UltraTech Cement Ltd (BO:ULTC) which rose 0.84% to 7,009.30, Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which was up 0.75% to settle at 1,521.05 and Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which gained 0.65% to close at 3,090.85.
The worst performers were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which was down 2.61% to 1,232.90 in late trade, Bajaj Finserv Ltd (BO:BJFS) which lost 2.55% to settle at 1,544.40 and IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which was down 2.26% to 1,174.60 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1657 to 277 and 19 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2695 fell and 732 advanced, while 92 ended unchanged.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 2.41% to 15.19.
Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.09% or 1.65 to $1,823.75 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 1.67% or 1.31 to hit $79.60 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 1.64% or 1.35 to trade at $83.55 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.17% to 82.74, while EUR/INR rose 0.13% to 87.99.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.14% at 103.70.
