India stocks lower at close of trade; Nifty 50 down 0.34%

Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Metals, Green Energy and Auto sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 0.34%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.28%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Tech Mahindra Ltd (NS:TEML), which rose 3.12% or 31.30 points to trade at 1,034.45 at the close. Meanwhile, HCL Technologies Ltd (NS:HCLT) added 1.48% or 15.90 points to end at 1,093.70 and Infosys Ltd (NS:INFY) was up 1.45% or 21.85 points to 1,525.50 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Adani Enterprises Ltd (NS:ADEL), which fell 2.72% or 101.35 points to trade at 3,619.80 at the close. AXIS Bank Ltd (NS:AXBK) declined 2.25% or 21.00 points to end at 913.15 and JSW Steel Ltd (NS:JSTL) was down 1.21% or 9.30 points to 759.20.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which rose 3.14% to 1,034.60, HCL Technologies Ltd (BO:HCLT) which was up 1.48% to settle at 1,093.90 and Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which gained 1.45% to close at 1,525.25.

The worst performers were AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which was down 2.26% to 913.10 in late trade, NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which lost 1.16% to settle at 165.85 and Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (BO:HDFC) which was down 1.03% to 2,594.75 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1168 to 755 and 72 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1838 fell and 1643 advanced, while 170 ended unchanged.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 3.89% to 15.02.

Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.11% or 2.10 to $1,919.60 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 0.49% or 0.39 to hit $79.72 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 0.29% or 0.25 to trade at $85.03 a barrel.

USD/INR was up 0.38% to 81.59, while EUR/INR rose 0.37% to 88.34.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.08% at 102.03.
