Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Metals, Technology and IT sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.31%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.33%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Adani Enterprises Ltd (NS:ADEL), which rose 2.52% or 99.10 points to trade at 4,029.50 at the close. Meanwhile, Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (NS:HLL) added 1.46% or 38.15 points to end at 2,658.00 and Nestle India Ltd (NS:NEST) was up 1.15% or 227.80 points to 19,980.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL), which fell 2.93% or 9.90 points to trade at 328.50 at the close. Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC) declined 2.61% or 12.55 points to end at 468.65 and Tata Steel Ltd (NS:TISC) was down 2.50% or 2.90 points to 112.95.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which rose 1.31% to 2,654.10, UltraTech Cement Ltd (BO:ULTC) which was up 0.99% to settle at 7,268.00 and Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which gained 0.81% to close at 223.60.
The worst performers were Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which was down 2.50% to 112.90 in late trade, Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (BO:REDY) which lost 2.35% to settle at 4,374.00 and Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which was down 1.69% to 1,612.85 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1124 to 781 and 53 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1807 fell and 1565 advanced, while 134 ended unchanged.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 2.26% to 14.04.
Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.23% or 4.05 to $1,785.35 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 1.03% or 0.79 to hit $76.14 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 1.06% or 0.88 to trade at $81.80 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.79% to 82.54, while EUR/INR rose 0.89% to 86.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.01% at 105.23.
