Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Auto, Banking and Real Estate sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 0.31%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.41%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC), which rose 3.17% or 5.35 points to trade at 174.25 at the close. Meanwhile, Apollo Hospitals Enterprises Ltd. (NS:APLH) added 2.55% or 118.15 points to end at 4,744.45 and ITC Ltd (NS:ITC) was up 1.79% or 4.75 points to 269.55 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (NS:MRTI), which fell 1.95% or 148.85 points to trade at 7,469.50 at the close. Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (NS:HDFC) declined 1.95% or 47.20 points to end at 2,378.50 and HDFC Bank Ltd (NS:HDBK) was down 1.91% or 28.55 points to 1,464.95.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which rose 1.87% to 269.50, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which was up 1.66% to settle at 936.45 and Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which gained 0.99% to close at 2,152.45.
The worst performers were Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (BO:HDFC) which was down 2.01% to 2,377.40 in late trade, HDFC Bank Ltd (BO:HDBK) which lost 1.90% to settle at 1,464.85 and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which was down 1.86% to 7,471.85 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1033 to 789 and 44 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1800 rose and 1478 declined, while 131 ended unchanged.
Shares in ITC Ltd (NS:ITC) rose to 52-week highs; gaining 1.79% or 4.75 to 269.55. Shares in ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) rose to 52-week highs; gaining 1.87% or 4.95 to 269.50. Shares in Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) rose to 5-year highs; rising 1.66% or 15.30 to 936.45.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 2.05% to 17.78.
Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.22% or 4.40 to $1,980.50 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 1.56% or 1.57 to hit $102.17 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 1.66% or 1.74 to trade at $106.38 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.01% to 76.16, while EUR/INR rose 0.15% to 82.46.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.13% at 100.43.
