Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Oil & Gas, Banking and Public Sector Undertakings sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.31%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.29%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Tata Motors Ltd (NS:TAMO), which rose 1.34% or 2.45 points to trade at 185.75 at the close. Meanwhile, Titan Company Ltd (NS:TITN) added 1.58% or 15.05 points to end at 966.70 and Eicher Motors Ltd. (NS:EICH) was up 1.18% or 238.95 points to 20556.10 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (NS:HPCL), which fell 2.76% or 6.60 points to trade at 232.90 at the close. IndusInd Bank Ltd. (NS:INBK) declined 2.42% or 38.75 points to end at 1565.90 and Bharti Infratel Ltd (NS:BHRI) was down 1.84% or 5.35 points to 285.05.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tata Motors Ltd (BO:TAMO) which rose 1.34% to 185.55, Tata Motors Ltd DVR (BO:TAMdv) which was up 1.13% to settle at 98.05 and NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which gained 1.13% to close at 147.80.
The worst performers were IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which was down 2.36% to 1563.00 in late trade, Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (BO:KTKM) which lost 1.42% to settle at 1221.35 and Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which was down 1.37% to 143.55 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 815 to 753 and 74 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1325 fell and 1184 advanced, while 150 ended unchanged.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 0.49% to 15.3450.
Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.08% or 1.05 to $1293.05 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 0.63% or 0.33 to hit $52.03 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 0.54% or 0.33 to trade at $61.11 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.06% to 70.555, while EUR/INR fell 0.16% to 81.2895.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.16% at 94.938.
