Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Metals, Fast Moving Consumer Goods and Healthcare sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 0.28%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.19%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL), which rose 2.35% or 8.00 points to trade at 348.75 at the close. Meanwhile, ICICI Bank Ltd (NS:ICBK) added 1.93% or 23.75 points to end at 1,255.50 and Britannia Industries Ltd (NS:BRIT) was up 1.52% or 90.65 points to 6,068.70 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were HDFC Life Insurance Company Ltd (NS:HDFL), which fell 3.56% or 26.35 points to trade at 714.25 at the close. Bajaj Auto Ltd (NS:BAJA) declined 3.17% or 377.80 points to end at 11,521.50 and Wipro Ltd (NS:WIPR) was down 3.02% or 16.60 points to 532.95.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which rose 1.95% to 1,256.00, Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which was up 1.26% to settle at 1,718.00 and Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which gained 1.20% to close at 3,076.30.
The worst performers were Wipro Ltd (BO:WIPR) which was down 3.01% to 532.90 in late trade, Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:BJFN) which lost 2.47% to settle at 7,032.00 and Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which was down 2.05% to 2,689.00 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1282 to 1192 and 93 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1979 rose and 1795 declined, while 108 ended unchanged.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 0.58% to 12.92.
Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.27% or 7.10 to $2,672.70 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 5.03% or 3.71 to hit $70.12 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 4.79% or 3.71 to trade at $73.75 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.04% to 84.03, while EUR/INR fell 0.03% to 91.67.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.21% at 102.87.
