Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Metals, Oil & Gas and Public Sector Undertakings sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 0.26%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.19%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (NS:ZEE), which rose 11.73% or 36.00 points to trade at 345.15 at the close. Meanwhile, Eicher Motors Ltd. (NS:EICH) added 2.09% or 450.20 points to end at 21954.60 and Adani Port and Special Economic Zone Ltd (NS:APSE) was up 1.39% or 5.10 points to 372.10 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL), which fell 5.97% or 32.50 points to trade at 514.10 at the close. Tata Steel Ltd (NS:TISC) declined 3.25% or 12.95 points to end at 385.10 and Coal India Ltd (NS:COAL) was down 3.37% or 6.85 points to 196.60.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which rose 1.15% to 2049.50, Larsen & Toubro Ltd (BO:LART) which was up 0.89% to settle at 1393.00 and Bajaj Auto Ltd (BO:BAJA) which gained 0.82% to close at 3188.55.
The worst performers were Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which was down 3.35% to 385.20 in late trade, Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which lost 2.52% to settle at 426.25 and Yes Bank Ltd (BO:YESB) which was down 2.43% to 64.25 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 923 to 626 and 76 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1382 fell and 1048 advanced, while 189 ended unchanged.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 1.22% to 14.9750 a new 1-month low.
Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.36% or 5.35 to $1468.85 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 0.21% or 0.12 to hit $56.89 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 0.27% or 0.17 to trade at $62.23 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.07% to 71.790, while EUR/INR rose 0.15% to 79.5540.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.09% at 97.730.
