Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Metals, Public Sector Undertakings and Oil & Gas sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.21%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.17%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (NS:ZEE), which rose 6.18% or 17.40 points to trade at 300.05 at the close. Meanwhile, Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (NS:TCS) added 2.01% or 41.70 points to end at 2121.30 and ITC Ltd (NS:ITC) was up 1.58% or 3.85 points to 246.95 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were JSW Steel Ltd (NS:JSTL), which fell 3.52% or 9.15 points to trade at 251.45 at the close. Coal India Ltd (NS:COAL) declined 3.38% or 6.85 points to end at 196.40 and Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:BRTI) was down 2.65% or 12.25 points to 447.35.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which rose 2.04% to 2121.50, ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which was up 1.54% to settle at 246.90 and Larsen & Toubro Ltd (BO:LART) which gained 1.28% to close at 1301.65.
The worst performers were Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which was down 2.96% to 447.20 in late trade, Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which lost 2.31% to settle at 399.65 and IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which was down 2.21% to 1509.85 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 882 to 663 and 81 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1295 fell and 1076 advanced, while 177 ended unchanged.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 7.37% to 14.3050 a new 3-months low.
Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.08% or 1.15 to $1479.05 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 0.05% or 0.03 to hit $58.46 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.38% or 0.24 to trade at $63.24 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.14% to 71.370, while EUR/INR rose 0.04% to 79.1890.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.13% at 97.475.
