Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Oil & Gas, Metals and Real Estate sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.21%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.18%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were UPL Ltd (NS:UPLL), which rose 5.38% or 47.90 points to trade at 936.55 at the close. Meanwhile, Yes Bank Ltd (NS:YESB) added 1.64% or 1.80 points to end at 111.95 and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NS:MAHM) was up 1.47% or 9.25 points to 634.85 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were JSW Steel Ltd (NS:JSTL), which fell 3.39% or 9.05 points to trade at 257.80 at the close. Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC) declined 3.01% or 5.15 points to end at 165.20 and Eicher Motors Ltd. (NS:EICH) was down 3.27% or 644.20 points to 19098.20.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Yes Bank Ltd (BO:YESB) which rose 2.19% to 111.95, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which was up 1.31% to settle at 635.45 and Tata Motors Ltd DVR (BO:TAMdv) which gained 1.30% to close at 77.70.
The worst performers were Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which was down 3.48% to 165.25 in late trade, Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which lost 2.33% to settle at 486.15 and Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) which was down 2.23% to 168.50 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 936 to 660 and 48 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1390 fell and 1026 advanced, while 173 ended unchanged.
Shares in JSW Steel Ltd (NS:JSTL) fell to 52-week lows; down 3.39% or 9.05 to 257.80.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 4.19% to 15.2225.
Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.74% or 10.35 to $1410.45 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.85% or 0.49 to hit $57.92 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.12% or 0.08 to trade at $64.53 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.27% to 69.395, while EUR/INR rose 0.04% to 79.0845.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.16% at 95.567.
