Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the Metals, IT and Technology sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.21%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.15%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were NTPC Ltd (NS:NTPC), which rose 3.97% or 5.80 points to trade at 152.20 at the close. Meanwhile, Eicher Motors Ltd. (NS:EICH) added 1.74% or 373.50 points to end at 21871.05 and GAIL Ltd (NS:GAIL) was up 1.79% or 6.15 points to 349.65 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Tata Motors Ltd (NS:TAMO), which fell 4.28% or 8.10 points to trade at 181.20 at the close. Wipro Ltd (NS:WIPR) declined 4.15% or 11.15 points to end at 257.70 and Tata Steel Ltd (NS:TISC) was down 2.55% or 13.30 points to 507.85.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which rose 4.28% to 152.35, Bajaj Auto Ltd (BO:BAJA) which was up 1.38% to settle at 2950.25 and Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:BJFN) which gained 1.13% to close at 2766.65.
The worst performers were Tata Motors Ltd (BO:TAMO) which was down 3.99% to 181.65 in late trade, Tata Motors Ltd DVR (BO:TAMdv) which lost 3.42% to settle at 91.65 and HCL Technologies Ltd (BO:HCLT) which was down 2.53% to 1008.45 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 909 to 683 and 66 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1385 fell and 1167 advanced, while 131 ended unchanged.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 2.31% to 14.9400 a new 1-month low.
Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.63% or 8.15 to $1294.25 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 1.69% or 0.96 to hit $55.70 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 1.79% or 1.19 to trade at $65.11 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.26% to 70.030, while EUR/INR rose 0.17% to 78.5855.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.25% at 97.387.
