Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the IT, Technology and Consumer Durables sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.20%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.13%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Yes Bank Ltd (NS:YESB), which rose 3.57% or 6.00 points to trade at 173.75 at the close. Meanwhile, Bharti Infratel Ltd (NS:BHRI) added 3.60% or 9.45 points to end at 270.85 and Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (NS:PGRD) was up 2.04% or 3.80 points to 190.20 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (NS:ZEE), which fell 3.57% or 15.45 points to trade at 418.45 at the close. Tata Motors Ltd (NS:TAMO) declined 3.45% or 7.40 points to end at 207.30 and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (NS:HPCL) was down 3.31% or 9.65 points to 281.95.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Yes Bank Ltd (BO:YESB) which rose 3.45% to 173.80, Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which was up 1.88% to settle at 189.80 and HDFC Bank Ltd (BO:HDBK) which gained 1.66% to close at 2353.95.
The worst performers were Tata Motors Ltd (BO:TAMO) which was down 3.29% to 207.15 in late trade, ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which lost 3.23% to settle at 394.60 and Tata Motors Ltd DVR (BO:TAMdv) which was down 3.03% to 99.10 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 973 to 609 and 63 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1395 fell and 1027 advanced, while 156 ended unchanged.
Shares in HDFC Bank Ltd (BO:HDBK) rose to all time highs; rising 1.66% or 38.45 to 2353.95.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 5.29% to 22.9825.
Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.91% or 11.65 to $1272.55 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 1.24% or 0.79 to hit $62.81 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 1.03% or 0.74 to trade at $71.44 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.34% to 69.403, while EUR/INR fell 0.13% to 77.7230.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.00% at 97.407.
