Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Healthcare, Fast Moving Consumer Goods and Metals sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 0.20%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.19%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Bharti Infratel Ltd (NS:BHRI), which rose 2.19% or 7.55 points to trade at 351.55 at the close. Meanwhile, Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (NS:KTKM) added 1.93% or 20.95 points to end at 1108.95 and Tech Mahindra Ltd (NS:TEML) was up 1.34% or 8.05 points to 612.65 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Tata Steel Ltd (NS:TISC), which fell 3.93% or 28.90 points to trade at 705.05 at the close. Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (NS:REDY) declined 3.56% or 82.15 points to end at 2225.35 and UPL Ltd (NS:UPLL) was down 2.51% or 19.35 points to 752.05.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which rose 1.25% to 961.15, Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (BO:HDFC) which was up 1.15% to settle at 1955.55 and Tata Motors Ltd (BO:TAMO) which gained 0.77% to close at 399.25.
The worst performers were Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (BO:REDY) which was down 3.75% to 2225.25 in late trade, Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which lost 3.75% to settle at 705.05 and Cipla Ltd. (BO:CIPL) which was down 3.15% to 587.45 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1030 to 573 and 32 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1705 fell and 1029 advanced, while 147 ended unchanged.
Shares in Tech Mahindra Ltd (NS:TEML) rose to 52-week highs; rising 1.34% or 8.05 to 612.65. Shares in Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (BO:HDFC) rose to all time highs; up 1.15% or 22.30 to 1955.55.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 2.95% to 15.9300.
Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.46% or 6.20 to $1341.60 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 0.53% or 0.34 to hit $64.16 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 0.58% or 0.40 to trade at $68.12 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.24% to 63.625, while EUR/INR rose 0.30% to 79.2284.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.27% at 88.78.
